Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our approach to Pilates is thoughtful and connected. While each of our instructors offers a different style of teaching, all of our classes share a common theme – a commitment to excellence in Pilates and a methodology that will deepen your connection to your body and mind. We empower our clients to trust themselves and explore what they can accomplish with their own bodies!

  • Pilates is a mind body experience that can be done on a mat or reformer. Our studio mainly uses a reformer. It consists of a carriage that moves back and forth on a track and is attached at one end by a set of weighted springs. Because of this, the reformer can train many parts and dynamics of the body. Pilates will increase your strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance. These things, in turn, lead to daily life improvements like better posture, gracefulness and efficient movement. Many of our clients also find relief from discomfort associated with physical imbalances such as back, knee, and hip pain.

  • Our studio is a playground for the spirit and body. We use wooden Elina Pilates reformers, Pilates mats, TheraBand fitness bands, foam rollers, magic circles, hand weights, jump boards, fitness balls, and more.

  • Any activity comes with risk. You can minimize risk by ignoring distractions, being aware and alert. Also, consider not wearing anything that can get caught in the reformer (i.e., loose clothes, jewelry) and pulling up your hair. Gripping socks are required. Some brands we recommend are ToeSox, Sweaty Betty, and Tavi Noir.

  • Not at all. Everyone is a beginner once. Our sessions can be tailored to every fitness and ability level. If you’re new, we suggest starting out with a Foundation class or a private session, which is completely customizable. If you can’t find an introductory class that works with your schedule just give us a call. We’ll help you get started.

  • The beauty of Pilates is in its ability to encourage rehabilitation and healing. If you’re injured or have physical restrictions, let your instructor know, she will show you modifications for movements that are uncomfortable or beyond your ability. If you’re currently under a doctor’s care, give us a call. We’ll make sure you’re scheduled in a class that will offer you the best experience.

  • Congratulations! Pregnancy is an amazing time, and not only is it safe to do Pilates while pregnant, but there are also specific benefits to doing Pilates during pregnancy as well, including: strength, increased flexibility to help with hip pain, improved circulation, some relief in lower back pain and helps control weight gain for mom and baby. Our instructors are trained in pre- and post-natal exercises. Feel free to talk to some of our moms who have practiced Pilates during their pregnancy and find out how much better their delivery went.

  • Yes! Pilates is a low impact physical activity that helps with weight loss, toning, strength building, balance, and control. It is a physical activity that involves the whole body and mind. Cardio can be added to some classes as well to help with endurance and fat burning.

  • Anybody and everybody! If you have a body, then you can do Pilates. Our classes range from beginner to intermediate and advanced. Our clients range from 12 years to our active agers (80+). You can be any gender, you can be any weight, and shape. Pilates is a great exercise routine for young growing bodies – especially those involved in sports. It can help minimize strength training injuries and improve balance, flexibility, and coordination.

  • After getting your doctor's approval, Pilates can be very effective for your rehabilitation; by helping to reduce pain and disability. The beauty of Pilates is that it can take the individual from the early stage of rehab to the long-term goal of a conditioned and fully functioning body.

  • Absolutely! Pilates is frequently recommended to help prevent and decrease back pain. Pilates exercises strengthen the core support for the back, teach good alignment, and provide gentle stretches for tight back muscles. We love seeing the relief on our clients’ faces when they notice how much better their back can feel.

  • Stretching not only feels wonderful, but it decreases your risk of injuries in everyday life by improving flexibility and increasing your range of motion in your joints. Stretching can help calm the mind and has been known to lower blood pressure and help with sleeping better.

    Benefits:

    • Improve performance in physical activity

    • Decrease your risk of injuries

    • Help your joints move through their full range of motion

    • Increase muscle blood flow

    • Enable our muscles to work most effectively

    • Improve your ability to do daily activities

  • Joseph Pilates himself said it best, “You’ll feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 and have a whole new body in 30 sessions.” Pilates exercises strengthen and tone the body while focusing on alignment, form and breath. From our experience, our clients see increased energy and invigoration after their first session. The practice is also ideal for injury prevention and gentle enough to use as a therapeutic approach to many chronic ailments.

  • We understand that some of our clients are familiar with our trainers and even familiar with one another. However, the experience at PilatesCNTR is unique and we want to guide our clients as we build an inclusive and respectful community. The New classes are intended to help everyone (trainer and client) in their practice.

  • If group classes aren’t your thing, or you just want the extra attention of a one-on-one session, we offer private Pilates and physical therapy sessions. While these sessions can be purchased online, you need to schedule them by calling (281) 948-2938 or emailing your preferred dates and times to pilatescntr@gmail.com. Private sessions are great for beginners hoping to get acquainted with Pilates equipment and routines, or for those looking for a little extra attention on form and technique.

  • We encourage everyone to start with the Foundation class so you can learn the Pilates terms we will be using in class and to learn the safety of the reformer. A strong Pilates foundation will aid you in your breathing techniques, teach you how to engage your core muscles and make you aware of your alignment and posture.

  • Hydration is important so please bring a water bottle with you. Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. T-shirts, work out tops, yoga pants, and shorts are all good options. Also wear a pair of socks that have grips on the bottom of them, so you don't slide on the floor. Please remove oversized jewelry and tie back long hair.

  • New to Pilates? Don’t be nervous. Our first-class checklist is simple:

  • While you cannot share your own package with others, or transfer your package to someone, you can however purchase a gift card or class package for someone.

  • We’re into commitment here. If you can’t make a session, it’s no problem, but keep in mind that we require you to cancel at least 12 hours before your class is scheduled. If you’re a no-show, the session will be deducted from your current package, and you will be charged $10 for late cancel or no show. Please cancel as soon as possible as a courtesy to your instructor and other clients who would like to take that class.

  • If you schedule a class and fail to cancel or do so within 12 hours of the class start time, you’ll forfeit that session from your package and will be charged $10.

  • By dividing our classes into categories, PilatesCNTR hopes to assist clients with finding sessions that match up to your fitness level. We do not expect our clients to progress through the categories. Each individual is different, and everyone’s journey is respected.
